Plot Summary:
Based on rock author and punk expert Alan G. Parker's best-selling book "Sid Vicious: No One Is Innocent."
"Who Killed Nancy" is a new documentary by Alan G. Parker looking into the demise of Nancy Spungen – was it her boyfriend, punk icon Sid Vicious; was it Nancy herself; or was it one of the unsavory junkie/dealers in and out of their room that night of October 12, 1978, at the Chelsea Hotel!
On October 12th, 1978, Nancy Spungen, an ex-prostitute, sometimes stripper and heroin addict, was found dead in a bathroom at the Chelsea Hotel in New York. She also happened to be the girlfriend of the Sex Pistols' bassist Sid Vicious, who was quickly accused of her murder. Less than 6 months later, he died of a heroin overdose and the case was closed.
The death of Sid and Nancy has passed into rock legend and has only added to the controversial and notorious image of the Sex Pistols and punk music.
At the request of Sid's mother, who committed suicide in 1996, Alan Parker has devoted himself to discovering who killed nancy, by interviewing 182 people – from former sex pistol Glen Matlock to Howie Pyro, a 'face' on the NYC punk scene who was present on Sid's last night alive - and re-examining NYPD evidence, he investigates what really happened that night in room 100.
Responding to the question, "Do we finally find out just 'who killed Nancy' in room 100 at the Chelsea Hotel, Parker responds: "I think we get as close as any human being is likely too! We didn't leave any stones unturned, and we discovered more new information than I personally thought we were going to."
Movie Story:
On October 12th 1978 New York Police discovered the lifeless body of a 20 year-old woman, slumped under the bathroom sink in a hotel room. She was dressed in her underwear and had bled to death from a stab wound. The woman was Nancy Spungen, an ex-prostitute, sometimes stripper, heroin addict, and girlfriend of Sex Pistols' bassist Sid Vicious. In a trial by tabloid newspapers Vicious was pronounced guilty before noon the following day. But the case never had the chance to be brought to trial, and a number of New York cops weren't convinced. Less than six months later in a flat in New York's Greenwich Village, Sid, himself aged only 21, died of a heroin overdose. For the next 28 years the assumption was that Sid did it - case closed. Over time, the death of Sid and Nancy has passed into rock legend and has only added to the controversial and notorious image of the Sex Pistols and punk music. At the request of Sid's mother, who committed suicide in 1996, rock author and punk expert Alan Parker has devoted himself to discovering what really happened in room 100. Parker has re-interviewed 182 people, re-examined NYPD evidence, and gone back to his original interviews with Sid's mother.

Paging Captain Obvious: 'Who Killed Nancy?' Doc Centers On The Death Of Ill-Fated Sex Pistol's FUG Girlfriend
Jesus, a whole documentary on who killed Nancy Spungen? Really? Really? Uhh, here's a clue, that sad, pathetic fucking junkie Sid Vicious. I mean, didn't the filmmakers see "Sid & Nancy"? Duuuuuh.
Well, disregardless of the obvious, some "mysteries" need further investigation apparently. According to The Journal, a British-based production company has been given some scratch to make the upcoming documentary "Who Killed Nancy?"
The doc will apparently "explore the events that led to the death of Nancy Spungen, girlfriend of the notorious Sex Pistols’ bassist, Sid Vicious."
Ok, Captain Obvious, good luck with that.
You'll remember that Johnny Rotten fucking haaaaaated Alex Cox's dramatized "Sid & Nancy," but whatever, what has the twat ever liked? Revisiting his comments however, is always amusing (and likely more engaging then this doc can ever hope to be).
"To me this movie is the lowest form of life. I honestly believe that it celebrates heroin addiction. It definitely glorifies it at the end when that stupid taxi drives off into the sky. That’s such nonsense. The squalid New York hotel scenes were fine, except they needed to be even more squalid. All of the scenes in London with the Pistols were nonsense. None bore any sense of reality
The chap who played Sid, Gary Oldman, I thought was quite good. But even he only played the stage persona as opposed to the real person. I don’t consider that Gary Oldman’s fault because he’s a bloody good actor. If only he had the opportunity to speak to someone who knew the man. I don’t think they ever had the intent to research properly in order to make a seriously accurate movie. It was all just for money, wasn’t it? To humiliate somebody’s life like that - and very successfully - was very annoying to me."
