Run If You Can Movie Plot Summary:

An independent tragicomedy, Run If You Can is the debut feature for director Brüggemann who, along with his sister, also wrote the compelling screenplay. Forced to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, Ben is deeply desperate, despite his humor and vivaciousness. When he meets Christian, his new assistant, Ben treats him like every other helper he’s had. Things suddenly change when Christian meets Annika, “the cello player” whom Ben has been observing from his window for years. The three become close friends, putting Annika in the middle of an emotional, and somehow dangerous, ménage à trois. While conquering Annika is nothing very serious for career-focused Christian, Ben’s love for Annika reminds him of his past and forces him to face his most remote fears. A character-driven story, Run If You Can owes much of its power to the actors’ performances, especially Robert Gwisdek’s outstanding interpretation of Ben.

Movie Story:
The story is based of a novel by two renowned writers for “Spiegel” magazine – Jochen Martin Gutsch and Juan Moreno.
I meant less that a funny story was being told. We see how a man is paralysed and has to cope with it. In this film Dietrich Brüggemann, with a sensitive intuition, struck a note which doesn’t make fun of this trauma and handicap, and yet approaches it in a humorous way. That works primarily through the extraordinary main character, who, alongside her bitterness takes life with a certain self-irony. This results in the bittersweet touch, for which the director’s short films and episodal film Neun Szenen are known. Here, by the way, he worked with his sister, the actress Anna Brüggemann.
Speaking of Renn, wenn Du kannst, you said here one sees that drama can be done differently. What did you mean by that?

Cindy liebt mich nicht deals with a totally different topic. Two men fall in love with the same woman. After she disappears they are suddenly forced to join up in order to look for her – although they couldn’t be more different. The story is based of a novel by two renowned writers for “Spiegel” magazine – Jochen Martin Gutsch and Juan Moreno.

Movie Reviews:
Ben will have to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He’s vivacious, intelligent and desperate. Love is out of the question for disabled people, at least that’s what he tells his new carer, Christian, who is doing his community service. Christian is easy-going; he takes life as it comes. He’ll spend half a year with Ben and then make his own way in life. Annika is studying the cello. She rushes through a life that for her is filled with practicing and perfecting her performance. She cycles past Ben’s apartment every day. Ben watches her longingly every day from his balcony but it’s not until she collides with Christian one morning that the three meet and become friends. The trio soon create a world of their own. But then they fall in love and, naturally the guys want more from Annika than just friendship. Annika can’t decide. She likes Christian’s playfulness, and yet, she’s never met anyone like Ben before – he’s different in every respect: not only is he an interesting person, he’s in a wheelchair. Something that began as a game for all three of them becomes a journey for Ben to his deepest fears – and he won’t be able to find his way out again alone.
Dietrich Brüggemann: “Nowadays affection is a commodity up for negotiation. What’s my value? How attractive am I? Our protagonists ask themselves these questions in the most brutal way imaginable. I wanted to explore the question of whether it’s possible to use the power of ideas to overcome one’s physical limitations – which is of course a concept inherent to cinema.”
