synopsis:
The journal of Nick Twisp, an 18-year old high school student, who goes on a quest to lose his virginity after his parent's breakup.
While his trailer trash parents teeter on the edge of divorce, Nick Twisp sets his sights on dream girl Sheeni Saunders, hoping that she'll be the one to take away his virginity. *
The story of Nick Twisp (Cera), a unique, but affable teen with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini who falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful, free-spirited Sheeni Saunders (Doubleday). But family, geography and jealous ex-lovers conspire to keep these two apart. With Sheeni's encouragement, Nick abandons his dull, predictable life and develops a rebellious alter ego: Francois. With his ascot, mustache, and cigarette, Francois will stop at nothing to be with Sheeni, and leads Nick Twisp on a path of destruction with unpredictable and uproarious consequences.

It was pushed from late October to early January, and at the time, I thought it was probably a bad move for The Weinstein Company. However, as trailers and commercials and now clips from Youth in Revolt have had more time and room to breathe, and now I think it probably has more recognition with potential opening weekend crowds.
I guess the studio is probably hoping for something along the lines of Michael Cera's Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, which made about $35 million in the fall of 2008 against a very manageable budget. And it was only in theaters for two months, so that's not a bad total at all. An advantage it might have - emphasis on might - is that it's a comedy that aims younger than most of the other movies in theaters right now, and that includes some of the early January releases, too. We have a brand new clip from Youth in Revolt in which The Hangover.s bearded master of weird Zach Galifianakis has his way with a beer, and then proposes to have his way with Jean Smart. He deserves it, The Hangover was really funny. Youth in Revolt on the other hand, the jury.s still out. It stars Michael Cera as a lovesick teen who decides to concoct a mustachioed, alternate, bad boy personality in order to get the girl. At some point this results in blowing things up.
